To the people of St Mary's: My heart goes out to you and I know what it's like to be the minority. You feel like you must be few in numbers who want to do the right thing. I beseech you to search your heart and souls and to think about the people--for many your ancesters who have supported the church for generations to make a better place for you. Now its your turn to honor the people who have given so much and for the future--your grandchildren---maybe some day they will be able to once again sit and worship in YOUR church and know that you fought for one of your civil rights. Freedom to worship where we please. God be with all of you in tese trying times. Helen

Sue, you mean you didn't know that the only people who are qualified to remove a little standing water in a basement are people who have to drive over 3 hours and setup scaffolding to do their work????!!! I guess I didn't know that either now that I think of it....

In fact, had it not been for the last time I was able to drink when the fountain of wisdom on Spielbusch spilled over, I wouldn't know that the proper way to winterize a church is to shut off the power, heat, and water without draining the plumbing. Oh, and the optimal time of year to do this is......wait for it.......MARCH!

Just think of how much we wouldn't know.

I have been to Junction St. Mary's to see the beautiful church and meet the concerned people who are desperately trying to save their church. On Tuesday, a crew from Cleveland again arrived and started removing items from the church. When a call was made to the Toledo Diocese, a spokesperson said the crew was there only to check on water in the basement. Seems odd that removing such items as the Stations of the Cross and putting up scaffolding to the church ceiling could help with water in the basement. Why would a contractor have to come all the way from Cleveland just to check the basement? I was told recently that the way to tell if a "church official" was lying was to see if his lips were moving. What more will it take for adult Catholics to realize what the Toledo Diocese tells us is suspect. Please support those who are fighting the closing and destruction of our parishes!

Steve, Fr. Nuss WOULD have been admirable if he had:

1. declined the position at St. Rose and instead sought professional help.

2. Sought help for the woman he sexually exploited and her kids both of whom he emotionally exploited.

3. Not hid behind the frumpy PR department's goofy statements that shredded the sacrament of reconcilation by using it after the fact as a shield.

4. Not allowed the woman and her kids to be his victims, and instead accepted 100 percent responsibility for his actions (which he didn't).

Sadly, he got caught, by an unsuspecting group of heros who just wanted (like United Parishes, VOTF and SNAP) answers as to why their priest was being removed.

I don't think they ever set out to catch a rogue priest or a bishop engaged in a full blown cover-up. But, not for that small group of concerted individuals, who were willing to vocalize SNAP's concerns aloud, Nuss would probably be at St. Rose.

It took the numbers of people the Bishop knew could collectively expose the bishop for his lies to the St. Rose parishoners. The bishop had to weigh that risk, the risk of faithful Catholics breaking their silence, and weigh that against keeping Nuss there. In the end, because of the courage of SNAP and these parishoners, a rogue priest is out a bishop is exposed AGAIN for being a liar.

Who knew the courage of a small group could move mountains?'

I admire what United Parishes is trying to do. This too, will expose the corruption within our church and flush out the evil of a few --- for the betterment of us all...my prayer is no longer for the heart of the bishop to soften, it is for everyday Catholics to stand up and recognize that they have a voice, if not a duty to speak up.

-J.B.L.

Sorry that there haven't been more updates on this. I wish that there were something newsworthy to post about, but certain aspects of this are in limbo at this point.

There has been a failure to comply with deadlines for summary judgement and discovery in order for us to move forward. This process is being held up and will need to be prodded along.

well...that bishop was a totally different bishop anyway. And besides, all churches are started that way correct? I tell ya what, all the closing sure mad one heck of a mess. More so than was even needed. My Parish was almost closed...but insted twinned with a different parish. (i sent you an e-mail from the link on your parish's website regarding this and other things)

It can be seen that the catholic church does have some leadership problems in places. But how can one even agree to the fact that closing parishes, keeping them out of their own buildings (as in your case) rudeness from the powers that be is okay? There are so many things i don't even want to get started on for fear that i may break something in angerrr...
